1.How to make an emergency phone call


In case of an accident or crime

› To call the police station
police. (TEL 110)
When the police answer your g110h call, remain calm.
Please explain (1) what happened, (2) when, and (3) where.
If you hear the siren from a patrol car on duty, go out to meet it, and direct it to the scene of the accident or crime.
Calling the police by dialing g110h is free. You do not need a ?10 coin or phone card when calling from a public phone.
When explaining what happened, remain calm. State your name and address and the names of identifiable buildings nearby. Posting a note near your telephone with your address written on it in large hiragana or romanized letters is advisable.

› When calling g110h (the police) or g119h (ambulance / fire dept) from a mobile phone
(1) Be sure to give your location and your mobile phone number.
If you donft know your location, give the names of any identifiable buildings nearby, or call from a nearby public telephone booth.
(2) In order to identify location and conditions, it may be necessary for the police to call you back. Thus, after contacting the police, do not shut off your phone. Remain at the scene.
(3) If you are driving, find a safe place to stop the car before making the call.

› Regarding the Koban (Police Box)
There is a Koban (police box) in each local district with an officer on duty. The koban deals with local patrols, assisting lost persons, and lost and found items.
Also, the koban can give you road directions.
