6.How to get emergency medical care in case of
serious illness or severe injury

Over the phone
Sudden illness (Kyubyo), Serious injury (Okega)

For immediate hospital treatment or serious injury, call 119 for an ambulance. Calmly provide the following information:
There is an emergency (not fire)
Where.
Details of the emergency; nature of the injury or needed medical care
Number of people involved, sex, age (adult, child, infant)
Degree of sickness or injury Do not call for an ambulance if the sickness or injury is not serious.

During weekends or at night
There are clinics open on holidays and during the night in each district.
Please refer to the list of emergency clinics that are open on holidays and at night. ( p.109)


7.In case of a gas leak

Gas Leak
If you noticed anything unusual regarding the gas
Using the gas improperly is very dangerous.
If you smell gas, please calmly perform the following procedures:

Fully open the windows and doors.
Natural gas (city gas) can be diffused because it is lighter than air, but propane gas stays close to the floor because it is heavier than the air. It is necessary to fan it out of the room.

Close gas valves and the meter cock.

B Contact your local gas company.
C Avoid turning electrical appliances on and off.
Installing a device that detects gas leaks and sets off a sound and lamp alarm is advisable. These can also be leased.


8.Lost Property

If you have lost something, go to the nearest police station or Koban (Police Box) to check if it has been found.
If you lose something while riding public transportation, try the following:
Train:

Ask the railway station staff. (If you know the name of the destination of the train you were riding, it may be easier to find your lost property.)

Bus:

Inquire at the bus companyfs office.

TaxiF Inquire at the taxi companyfs office.
If you found lost property

Take any lost property you may find to the nearest police station or Koban (Police Box) as soon as possible. If you find it on a train or in a department store, take it to a railway station employee or to the lost and found department of the store. In either case, be sure to obtain a Shutoku-butsu Azukari-sho (Deposit of Lost Property Certificate/Slip).
